Accompanying picture exhibits two pieces of similarly colored satin, one from high grade silk thread and the other made from mid grade polyester fibre, at first glance looking considerably alike, though their prospects aren’t; One is purposed to construct the Red Shirt, the other will serve as lining.

Whether my camera captures a superiority in fall and color wealth brought forth by the all natural silk, sufficing to justify its expense is not the most relevant issue, as preparing the shirt out of the polyester would inhibit a strenuous process, never accumulating the finest result, due to its structural limitations.

The choice between having a distinguished shirt out of expensive material, or an overall lesser quality one for an increased number of bad-spirited working hours, appears an easy one to make, as in the end, labour is still the project’s highest cost.

Selecting Buttons

Instead of gothing-up garments by resorting to skull- or coffin-shaped versions of the archetypical fasteners, I have an inkling for choosing buttons that fortify an enunciated aspect of the design through a certain form, substance or color relation; such is my selection for the red shirt, for which I found a very special opened-up nickle construction, ricocheting the silky crimson through its clefts instead of competing with its vigor.

Most ubiquity I find the creative urge relenting to my original field of studies, materializing in incorporating its science into my designs. Seeking a greater level of functionality, whilst minding specific usability limitations, pursuing new methods of connecting structures and materials in order to express emotion in shapes by creating artistically endearing three dimensional objects that encompass us as we live providing protection against the elements; when it comes down to significance, both architecture and fashion are notions of the same endeavor, opposing primarily in encapsulation range and staticity.

Convening to a fascinatingly to such norms divergent conduct, striving to create architecture which imitates life reforming itself around us as we maneuver, and a fashion static and robust upholding a pertinent presence, – one of which ideally adaptable to the uncompromising environment of a certain festival – I contrived the following study incorporating one anachronous idealism of architecture: the Gothic window.

Exhibiting this cogitation, the following figures depict modifications on standard base patterns for an eight-panel skirt, a six-panel coat, and a four-panel cape, each epitomizing such window on overlap, with the cape, as the project’s magnus opus, exhibiting an even more tributal reoccurrence of this manifestation wherein any fabric, cut in godet, can back the window aperture.

Drawings, Sketches and Poses

I never considered myself a graphical artist, but rather a structural one, being able to bring any shape to live, yet excruciating on making my artwork look correspondingly. Trying to portray the integral outfit concept into one illustration, I often end up drawing difficult poses that look somewhat unrealistic, only made worse by the coloring process making proportions seem out of balance, even though they were carefully measured out before.
Aggravating, as I need to do these illustrations - wish I demonstrate my work to others – whereas to me they are merely a means of reference, combining the stackloads of sketches, detail-plans, fabric samples and mathematical calculations I keep, but which are far less suitable for exhibition.
With the possibility of starting this blog in my mind, I have been redoing sketches during construction, trying to make them more perceptible to others and have found such a mid-process recollection not detrimental at all.

Received Wigs

As elaborate outfits tend to take a timely dress, wigs are a tremendous asset, for having each day’s intricate hairdo pre-styled and ready salvages a lot of the oh-so-precious on-the-spot time, while the great range of available variant shades can elevate the single outfit into a composition of color-play throughout the Treffen.
