Buying Trimming

Wading through towering structures of flash-ribbons, frill-lints and sequin trims to make my way to the back end of the store in hopeful pursuit of purchasing the last remainder on the curbed-link silver-chain rolls.

Groundwork

After separately cutting the pieces for the Rider Vest they undergo a set of pre-production procedures, steaming any wrinkles out of the dense black velvet, carefully ironing the fold-lines into place, leaving the pieces ready for assemblage as soon as the pressed-on interfacing sets in.

Prototyping

Having the principal patterns drawn, the next thing to do is tracing the vest‘s pieces onto cotton, working out a textile base for trying out the new design, applying pins to adjust the fit where necessary, redrawing the seam-lines on the cotton using chalk to eventually copy the correct alterations back onto the patterns.

In drawing the patterns for the Rider Vest I started off copying a well-fitting base, keeping the shoulders but relocating the vertical seams to match those of the accompanying basque, merging two side-pieces into one and delineating all non-tailoring design-lines onto the pieces within the process, allowing me to verify these onto cotton before continuing onto the advanced patterns featuring decorative seams and folded layers.

Dry-cleaning

Making a stop at the house of secrets for recovering the delicate works and finding them refreshed in their pleats so perfectly, it makes one yearn to someday apprehend their mystic technologies for use at home.
